THE FIRST PRODUCT
The Drill that knows When to Stop.
SVAN
SVAN builds auto-stop drills for high-risk bone drilling. They sense the moment to halt and stop before damage is done. We start where the stakes are highest: SVAN QuickAccess, the safest intraosseous (IO) access platform for every patient, from 500 g preterm neonates to adults.

The Problem
Today, when intravenous accessto drugs fails or is not availabe during resuscitation, clinicians reach the bloodstream through bone. But the powered drills to do it were designed for adults and used off-label on newborns and infants, the patients least able to withstand a millimetre too far. Nearly half of first attempts fail in preterm neonates and infants, and when a drill goes a mm too deep the consequences are extravasation, fracture, necrosis and even amputation of the leg. No CE-marked or FDA-cleared powered IO device exists for patients under 3 kg.

The Platform
We chose the hardest problem first, on purpose. Building an auto-stop precise enough to halt inside the marrow of a 500 g newborn proved something bigger: the same technology answers a far broader need. Wherever a drill can pass too far into or through bone, auto-stop senses the point to stop and prevents the damage that follows. Intraosseous access is the first application. Emergency cranial access is the next. SVAN is building auto-stop technology for the highest-risk moments in bone drilling, and QuickAccess is where it starts.

SVAN Technologies is a MedTech spin-off from the Medical University of Vienna. We build smart tools for one of medicine's most unforgiving moments, reaching the bloodstream through bone when an emergency leaves no other way in.
Who We Are?
SVAN builds the first smart bone-drilling platform with auto-stop for every patient, from 500 g neonates to adults.
What We did?
Our founders, dental surgeon, biomedical engineer and a neonatologist, kept seeing the same failure: when intravenous access collapses, clinicians drill into the marrow to deliver drugs and fluids, but the powered tools to do it were designed for adults and used off-label on the patients least able to withstand a mistake. So we started at the hardest end, with newborns under 3 kg, and built one platform, SVAN QuickAccess, that scales safely to every patient from there.
Our Founders

• First Digital IO drill for neonates <3 kg body weight
• Single drill platform with four needle kits addressing all ages and weight
• Patented Auto-stop sensor technology- EU Unitary Patent Granted until 2042
Three quantified chips
The same auto-stop technology answers a far broader problem. Wherever a drill can pass too far into or through bone, auto-stop senses the moment to stop and prevents the damage that follows. Emergency cranial access is the first of these adjacent applications we're taking forward, and it points to what SVAN is really building: not a single device, but auto-stop technology for the highest-risk moments in bone drilling.
